Job Description

The Senior Software Engineer will join Royal London’s Digital team, working within a cross functional application delivery team to design, build and operate customer facing and internal digital services.

Working across Angular front end and C#/.NET back end services deployed in Azure, you will contribute to technical design, development, testing and the ongoing operation of high quality, secure and resilient applications. You will work closely with architects, testers, product owners, analysts and other stakeholders to deliver effective digital solutions.

The role will involve contributing to technical design and impact assessments, maintaining technical documentation, participating in code reviews and supporting live applications through incident investigation, troubleshooting and resolution. You will apply engineering best practice across clean code, automated testing, security, resilience and observability.

As a senior member of the team, you will also mentor and support other engineers and contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering practices across the wider Digital engineering community.

Essential Selection Criteria

A strong software engineering background with experience delivering solutions across the full application development lifecycle is essential.

Candidates should have proven experience designing, building and maintaining modern web applications, with strong expertise in either Angular or a similar front end framework, or C#/.NET, alongside working knowledge of the complementary technology stack. Strong experience building and operating applications in Azure cloud environments is required, together with a good understanding of API driven and service based architecture.

Candidates should also have experience using CI/CD pipelines and a strong focus on application quality, including testing, performance, security, resilience and operational readiness. You should be comfortable working independently and making sound technical decisions within an established architectural framework, with previous experience supporting and mentoring engineers at different career stages.

Desirable Selection Criteria

Experience with Azure services such as App Services, Functions, Storage, Key Vault and Application Insights would be advantageous, as would experience with API Management. Exposure to mobile application development or supporting mobile applications through backend services would also be beneficial, alongside familiarity with Infrastructure as Code such as Bicep or Terraform.

Experience building and supporting applications within regulated or security conscious environments is also desirable.
