Job Description

The Maritime Engineering Technical Support Officer will provide technical oversight across a fleet of vessels, supporting operational performance, maintenance planning and regulatory compliance.

The role will act as a key point of contact for Vessel Managers, Commanders and Chief Engineers, monitoring vessel usage and planned and unplanned machinery servicing requirements. You will provide technical direction when issues arise, using your engineering expertise to identify likely causes, recommend investigative work and determine appropriate solutions.

You will monitor compliance with statutory, Class and Flag State requirements, assess the impact of regulatory changes and identify opportunities for continuous improvement across the fleet. The role will also involve reviewing operational and maintenance standards through ship rides and port visits, identifying non conformances and recommending improvements.

Working closely with suppliers and internal teams, you will oversee technical requirements and specifications for maintenance contracts, support defect rectification and help identify the most appropriate commercial route when specialist support is required. You will also contribute to material assurance activities and apply lessons learned across the fleet to improve operational and maintenance standards.

Essential Selection Criteria

The job description does not provide a separate person specification or defined selection criteria. Based strictly on the responsibilities provided, the role requires strong maritime engineering expertise and experience supporting vessel operations and maintenance.

Candidates will need the technical knowledge to advise Chief Engineers on vessel and machinery issues, oversee planned and unplanned maintenance and support defect investigation and rectification. A strong understanding of statutory, Class and Flag State requirements is also required, alongside the ability to assess regulatory changes and their implications for vessel operations.

The role also requires experience working with suppliers and technical contracts, an understanding of relevant commercial processes and the ability to communicate technical issues, solutions and recommendations effectively to operational teams and senior stakeholders.
